Obituary of Lois Elizabeth Smith

It is with great sadness that the family of Lois Elizabeth Smith announce her peaceful passing, which occurred on Monday, November 28, 2022, at Bobby’s Hospice, Saint John, NB. Born in Cornhill, NB, on August 29, 1942, she was the daughter of the late Gerald and Lorna (Colpitts) DeBow.

Married for 63 years to loving husband Peter Smith who she shared many adventures with over the years. She is lovingly remembered by her three daughters: Cheryl Smith (Jeff McCavour) of Truro, NS, Janet (LeRoy) Vincent of Renforth, NB and Diane (Jeff) Barry of Valley, NS; seven grandchildren: Brett, Caitlin, Niels, Annah, Emmah, Erin and Kelsey; cherished sister Jean (Rick) Hodgson; brother-in-law Paul Smith (Anne); sister-in-law Rosina Soucy (Erney); as well as several nieces, nephews and close friends, especially Gail and Martin Fewer who were like family to her. In addition to her parents, Lois was predeceased by her son Richard Smith.

Lois went to school at Belleisle Regional High School. Lois was one of the first employees when Marks & Spencer opened its doors at McAllister Place Mall and was there for 21 years until it closed in 1999. She was passionate about retail and went on to work at Tabi for 6 years and she loved to shop. She loved to spend time with her grandkids, whether it was watching one of their many sporting events or teaching them to bake cookies or her famous biscuits. She was immensely proud of them all and often commented on how lucky she was to have such wonderful people in her life. Friends were very important to Lois and she enjoyed meeting them for coffee and conversation, and was always there to help out whenever needed.

Her and Peter had many hobbies that they enjoyed over the years, including motor cycling, camping, boating & travelling. More recently she developed a passion for the Toronto Blue Jays and watched them faithfully, often disappointed in the outcomes!

Arrangements have been entrusted to Reid’s Funeral Home (506-832-5541), 1063 Main Street, Hampton, NB where visitation will be held on Thursday, December 1, 2022, from 4 to 7PM. A private family interment will take place at St. Simon & St. Jude’s Anglican Cemetery, NB.
